The white rose of Yorkshire was an underlying theme. A man of impeccable manners and integrity. His family were so sad to lose him but so proud of what he had given them in life. His son wrote a moving piece about him which said that “there is nothing stronger than a father love”. It was a life very well lived. His brother had sent a card with this wonderful poem on it which we read out;

The Rose beyond the Wall

A rose once grew where all could see,

Sheltered beside a garden wall.

And as the days passed swiftly by,

It spread its branches straight and tall.

One day a beam of light shone through,

A crevice that had opened wide.

The rose bent gently towards its warmth,

Then passed beyond the other side.

Now you who deeply feel its loss,

Be comforted, the rose blooms there.

Its beauty even greater now,

Nurtured by Gods own care.
